AI Adoption from McKinsey Research
Here are the key takeaways from the report:
AI Adoption Surges
AI adoption by organizations has jumped to 72% in early 2024, up from around 50% in previous years.
Over two-thirds of respondents in nearly every region report their organizations using AI.
Half of respondents say their organizations have adopted AI in two or more business functions, up from less than a third in 2023.
Generative AI Adoption Accelerates
65% of respondents say their organizations regularly use generative AI in at least one business function, up from one-third in 2023.
The most common functions for generative AI use are marketing/sales (34%), product/service development (23%), and IT (17%).
Personal use of generative AI tools has also increased significantly compared to 2023, especially among senior executives.
Benefits and Challenges Emerge
Organizations are already seeing cost decreases and revenue gains in business units deploying generative AI.
However, 44% of respondents say their organizations have experienced negative consequences, most often related to inaccuracy (23%), cybersecurity (16%), and explainability (12%).
Inaccuracy is the risk organizations are most actively working to mitigate for generative AI use.

Can AI do that? Instead of searching for another AI tool to do the task, ask the current AI tool you are already using if it can do that task.
I had two conversations this week, where both individuals were using over 12 AI tools when 10 of the tools could be done within ChatGPT, CoPilot or Claude and others like it. Look at your current technology stack before adding another AI tools. The current tools might have AI built in and you don’t need another tool or the current AI tools can do that task at hand.
